Optical communications, optical CDMA, PPM codes, unipolar signaling, maximum likelihood decoding.
This paper analyzes the error performance of the optical code-division multiple access systems utilizing one dimensional and multidimensional PPM codes. The multiple access interference is characterized by the continuous probability density functions, thus allowing the investigation of the maximum likelihood performance of actual asynchronous O-CDMA systems employing on off keying (OOK) and on-off orthogonal (OOO) signaling. Two types of detectors are examined: conventional (SUM detector) and maximum likelihood (ML detector), with the performance results compared.
